NAVAL FLIGHT OFFICER OPTION

While STA-21 will continue to provide the opportunity for Naval Flight Officer (NFO) designation as well as other URL designators, graduates of STA-21 NFO Option will be designated solely as Student Naval Flight Officer (SNFO) (Designator 1370).

Age: STA-21 NFO Option candidates must be at least 19 years old and able to complete degree requirements and be commissioned prior to age 27. Maximum age limit may be adjusted upward to age 31 with active duty or prior active duty service computed on a month-for-month basis and approved by PERS-435A. No waivers beyond 31.

Enlisted Source: Open to men and women of all ratings.

Educational Requirements: Applicants must achieve a score of at least the following: AQR (4), FOFAR (5) on the Aviation Selection Test Battery (ASTB).

If selected for STA-21 NFO Option, eligibility must be maintained at the university in which enrolled.

Medical Standards: To ensure that applicants are fit for aviation duty, it is strongly recommended that a Naval Aviator Physical with cycloplegic eye refraction be completed prior to application.

Service Obligation: STA-21 NFO Option officer candidates will incur a six-year active duty obligation upon date of designation as a Naval Flight Officer or six years from date of disenrollment from flight training unless released by the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Manpower and Personnel).
