OCEANOGRAPHY OPTIONAge: STA-21 OCEANOGRAPHY Option selectees must be at least 18 years old and be able to complete degree requirements and be commissioned prior to age 35. Enlisted Source: Open to men and women of all ratings. Educational Requirements: Applicants are required to pursue Physical Science degrees (i.e., Physical Science, Meteorology, or Physical Oceanography). Additionally, the Oceanography community is looking for particular academic majors and for officers who possess strong analytical ability, as well as communication skills (both oral and written). Additional educational requirements are listed in the Plan Authorization (PA). Medical Standards: STA-21 OCEANOGRAPHY Option applicants must meet medical standards in accordance with the Manual of the Medical Department Chapter 15 and as detailed in DoD Directive 6130.3. Service Obligation: STA-21 OCEANOGRAPHY Option selectees will incur a five-year active duty obligation upon commissioning. Additional obligated service may be incurred as a result of special training received following commissioning. Appointment: Will be appointed Ensign, USN, Restricted Line, Designator 1800. OCEANOGRAPHY Officer Candidates who fail to meet program requirements, but desire consideration for Unrestricted Line officer opportunities may contact the Oceanography Officer Community Manager for information regarding conversion to the STA-21 CORE program subject to the requirements of the Oceanography Program.
